Community Voices: How PMB Holdings is spreading positivity in the Soho area
“The Berwick Street development represents an important step towards sustaining the rich essence and personality of this unique place” – Neil Drinkwater, Trust Manager of The West End Community Trust
The West End Community Trust is a Soho-based charity that has been running for eight years. It provides a full programme of events for the community, particularly focusing on isolated and elderly residents. It seeks to promote community cohesion, by connecting and empowering the West End Community.
Here at PMB Holdings, we’re keen to give a little back to the community by providing financial support to some of the area’s best loved local causes. PMB Holdings has had a strong relationship with The West End Community Trust since it was founded almost a decade ago. Trust manager Neil Drinkwater says “Without organisations like PMB Holdings making monthly contributions, The West End Community Trust would cease to exist. Its support is a major factor in the Trust’s continued sustainability. We see it as an essential contributor towards helping Soho residents”, explains Neil.
Berwick Street development
Our development in Berwick Street includes a new urban hotel, sixteen new homes including four family-sized affordable flats, improved shop units and new roof terraces for existing Kemp House residents. The West End Community Trust initially had concerns about the development having a detrimental impact on the character of this area of Soho but was delighted to learn that new tenants would only include independent businesses. Neil said: “The independent shops that will occupy the new site will be an important step in continuing the rich essence and personality of this great place.”
Co-op will be welcomed by all
The Co-operative supermarket will reopen as part of the Berwick Street development. The West End Community Trust welcomed the news. “The store is going to be extremely valuable for the elderly members of the community, who will no longer have to travel to other areas of West London. There are few other supermarket options in the area. It’s great to hear the development will be complete next year”, added Neil.
